The light in Fairbanks is quite wonderful in two distinct ways: First, the far northern location of this city makes the days and nights extremely long, depending upon the season. Second, the location also means the light comes to the eye from the side, not from above, making the color and hue unique and distinctive. 

Long Day/Long Night consists of two curved panels with slats of translucent colored glass hanging side by side. One panel contains the colors of the long day, and the other contains the colors of the long night.
